Case Study: CiCi's Pizza franchise, Florida

CHALLENGE

A CiCi’s Pizza franchisee who owns 15 stores contacted Video911 to address 5 specific needs:

1) Shrinkage Prevention and Deterrence
The franchisee suspected that theft was occurring. The most expensive ingredient in the pizzas, the mozzarella cheese, was mysteriously disappearing.

2) Employee Productivity
As an owner of 15 stores, the franchisee wasn’t able to effectively track the operations of each of her individual store managers and employees.

3) Protocol Adherence
At CiCi’s Pizza, customer service is paramount. The franchisee wanted to be sure that each and every customer who walked through the door was greeted properly. Additionally, as a $3.99 pizza buffet, food preparation protocol is key--a little too much or too little of a certain ingredient could wipe out profit and hurt quality (and thereby profit).

4) Intrusion Detection and Identification
The franchisee had a traditional alarm system previously installed, however employees often created false alarms. The false alarms led to threatened revocation of their alarm permit and cost to respond to the false alarms. Additionally, when a real intrusion actually took place, the police responded and verified an event took place, but without video surveillance, the perpetrator was never caught.

5) Transaction Monitoring
The franchisee was plagued with cash drawers being slightly short at the end of the day.

SOLUTION:

The franchisee installed three Video911 cameras. The cameras were connected to an existing DSL line and DSL router. As each camera was connected, the internal camera software automatically connected to the Video911 server and registered the unique camera ID number, and the external and internal IP of the camera. The franchisee then logged into the Video911 web site and entered their name and address info, and the serial number found on the bottom of each camera. Set-up complete. Now it was time to strategically place the cameras to get the most out of them.

Camera One
Camera one was placed in the kitchen with a view of the food preparation area and the back door. A magnetic trip was placed on the rear door to trigger the camera whenever the door was opened.

Challenges Solved by Camera One:
• Shrinkage
• Productivity Monitoring (via live video and Time Lapse setting)
• Protocol Adherence - Food Preparation

Camera Two
Camera Two was placed behind the cashiers’ counter facing the front of the store. Motion detection and audio was enabled on this camera and a magnetic trigger was added to the cash register drawer.

Challenges Solved by Camera Two:
• Productivity Monitoring (via live video and Time Lapse setting)
• Protocol Adherence - Customer Greeting (audio)
• Transaction Monitoring (alert from cash register drawer)
• Intrusion Detection

Camera Three
Camera Three was placed facing the buffet line.

Challenges Solved by Camera Three:
• Productivity Monitoring (via live video)
• Multi-store Productivity Monitoring - franchisee uses Time Lapse settings to create video for the busiest times
